Inspired by Dante’s Inferno, MESSIAH – THE HARROWING was the fourth in the acclaimed MESSIAH series, starring Ken Stott, Helen McCrory, Neil Dudgeon, Maxine Peake, Hugo Speer and Harriet Walter. A Great Meadow co-production with BBC and Paramount International, THE HARROWING gained an audience of 7 million when shown on BBC1 over three consecutive nights at the end of August 2005.

Locked in a car, abandoned on a massive rubbish dump and left to die in terrible circumstances, 20 year old student Catherine McArdle’s fate foreshadowed the epic trail of death leading DCI Red Metcalf through the darkest recesses of a serial killer’s mind to the very depths of Hell itself.

THE HARROWING was directed by Paul Unwin, written by Terry Cafolla and the series is based on the characters from Boris Starling’s book MESSIAH.
